Clearly, a student who steals his prof's laptop is in a world of hurt.
Just as clearly, a prof who "loses" a laptop with pre-IPO biotech data is going to see his name go right to the end of the rolodex of consultants.
And just as clearly, the nice folks at the SEC are going to have a very close eye on Mr. Professor's financial data for the next few years. And there'll probably be more to go through than some broke 20 year old's bank account.
So there's a few reasons he might have been so mad... the word "bluff" does come to mind.
Ding ding ding! Give Joe a prize. He was, apparently, bluffing.
