spelling

Latest oddness - the most frequent spelling error in today's pile was not the confusion between it's (it is) and its (ownership) but confusing "loose" and "lose." This one has me baffled.

Words Written: passed the 3000 mark yesterday!!!
Lessons Graded: oh, fifteen or so, not many
Books on Floor: one

The best I ever saw was "lye" for "lie." I thought to myself, "what and interesting mispelling", but then it is a real word and the continued reliance on spell check to fix that is evident in those who had spell check during their formative years.

Then, two papers later in the stack, the same mispelling showed up. Huh! Then other striking similarities started showing up.

Turns out the paper "writers" were boyfriend/girlfriend. I am assuming the girlfriend wrote the paper. Instead of rewriting it for him, she basically shuffled paragraphs around. Um ... I am in grad school? One would hope I am not a complete idiot! (Okay was in grad school, but at the time ...)

I mean really, how much harder is it to rewrite and rephrase a 4 page paper? If you are going to cheat, at least put a little effort into it! Shoot, you might even get a better grade. I know the paper I ghost wrote in HS got a better grade than my own!

Hi
Have you heard of a word PRE-PONE which is considered the opposite of POST-PONE in India. We use it for saying that a certain thing has been advanced. But believe me, it is not found in the dictionary!!!

Rachel -- your comment reminds me of my favorite joke in junior high school, the punch line of which is: "People who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones."
