Indianapolis is snowed in. All of the schools are closed, even the die-hard private places. Most businesses are closed, which is why my wonderful next door neighbor was on hand to snow blow my driveway.
This does bring me to the question of why - yes, I always seem to find a why. According to the radio, all sorts of accidents took place this morning, hardly surprising - but who are these people? In my version of the universe, the only people who should have to work today are people at hospitals, police officers, etc. Why on earth should the rest of the universe have to go to work today on roads that are not safe? What is so vital to the world that office workers risk the unplowed roads just so that the office can say that they were open?
Easy for me to say, I have the day off.

Paychecks.
Our policy is that we only give time off with pay if the Sheriff calls a Level 3 snow emergency.
The Sheriff's policy is to only call a Level 3 emergency if he has seen 3 of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and they must be having trouble staying on the road.
(We do, in the library, try to work with people so they can either make up the time or work from home... but that's not an option for every employee.)
So that was my thought process, as I saw all the businesses announcing "First Shift Cancelled" this morning. I don't know what's worse - announcing "you're not getting paid today" or saying "you get paid, assuming you don't break your neck."
Yeah, and I love it that the kids and I had to lift enough off the heavy snow and ice off our driveway so that Ron, who slid off to the library before much of the snow fell, could make it back up the driveway at the end of the day. Luckily, they're big enough to do more this year.
Don't hate me A. but it's 77 degs here right now and I'm HATING it! I don't envy the snow you have to get through each day but I sure do like colder weather . . . OK, maybe not THAT cold - LOL!
Prez Obama says "flinty" Chicagoans, dontcha love that?
