oh come on!

The dust jacket. The student copied the text of the dust jacket and submitted it as a book review.

Words Written: zero
Lessons Graded: too depressing - are they all like this? am I this awful?

I shouldn't laugh... That's too funny though.

OK, a few hours later on it is a little funny. I admit... ;-)

No, it's not your fault. I do wonder if there is more cheating now. I never cheated, but I know friends of mine did. Are we falling into the "kids these days" trap? I'm not sure. It is easier to cheat, and kids honestly don't seem to understand it's a moral wrong. I'm fighting it hard, though.

I as a college student am embarassed by the number of my peers that think they won't get caught cheating. While cheating has gotten easier, so has finding a cheater, with services like turnitin.com.

I don't think it's any one teacher's fault when a student cheats. I do think that a lot of grade and high schools have stopped teaching research skills, and that leaves those of us in higher ed holding the bag when students don't do an assignment right (or legitimately don't know how to do it at all).

I will suggest that my grade school teachers used cheating as a wonderful example of the magical properties of the Zero. We got a nice little explanation of the difference between a 60% F and a 0% F. And anyone who didn't like it would be welcome to explain their position to the Principal.

I'm sure you don't want to be known as the Iron Lady, Lemming, but perhaps it's time to make some examples...
